Frequently asked questions

How VEDU works for families and for drivers. Every price on this page is read from the live system, so it always matches what the app charges.

General

What is VEDU?

A platform connecting families with vetted, licensed drivers for a child's everyday journeys: to school, to a club, to training, or home when a parent cannot drive them. The rides are carried out by licensed carriers; VEDU provides the booking, the safety layer, tracking and payment.

Where does VEDU operate?

Riga and the immediate surroundings for now. This is the pilot phase.

What ages does VEDU carry?

Children up to 18. A child seat is compulsory below 12 years or 150 cm, and the driver provides it.

How is VEDU different from Bolt or a taxi?

Bolt and Uber terms do not allow carrying a child without an adult. VEDU is built for exactly that: vetted drivers, psychological assessment, cabin and road cameras, GPS tracking, and a ride only a parent can close.

How do I contact VEDU?

Email hello@getvedu.app, phone +371 29966535, or the support chat in the app.

Signing up

How do I start?

Download the VEDU app (App Store or Google Play), choose "I'm a parent", sign up with Apple, Google or email, add your child's profile and a payment card. It takes a few minutes.

Does my child need an account or a phone?

Only an adult (a parent or guardian) creates the account and books rides. A child does not need a phone. If they have one, you can add it to their profile, and during a ride the VEDU widget on that phone shows the ride.

What goes in a child's profile?

Name, age and anything important (allergies, particular needs). The same screen is where you choose how the child is handed over at the end of a ride.

Can I add more than one child?

Yes, each child gets their own profile.

Booking a ride

How do I book?

Give the pickup address and the destination, then choose the time: now, or booked ahead. You see the estimated price before you confirm.

Can I schedule regular rides?

Yes - the school run every morning, or training twice a week. A ride can be booked up to 6 days ahead.

What do I learn about the driver beforehand?

Once the ride is confirmed you see the driver's full name, the carrier's name and licence number, and the car's make, model and registration.

Can I choose a particular driver?

Rides are assigned automatically among available drivers. After your first rides you can build a list of favourites: the request goes to them first, and only then to everyone else. We cannot guarantee a particular driver is free.

Can several children ride together?

Children from the same family, yes. Shared rides with children from different families are in development.

Price and payment

What does a ride cost?

A base fare of 0,50 EUR plus 0,01 EUR per minute and 0,01 EUR per kilometre. The minimum fare is 0,50 EUR. The tariff is fixed - it does not rise at peak times - and it starts counting from the start of the ride, not from the driver's arrival. You see the estimate before you confirm.

How do I pay?

Card only, through Stripe. VEDU does not store card details. A receipt is emailed to you after the ride.

Is there a waiting charge?

The first 7 minutes are free. After that it is 0,01 EUR per minute, for no more than 10 minutes. For a booked ride the clock starts at the booked time rather than at the driver's arrival: if they arrive early, you are not charged for it.

What if the child does not come out?

The driver calls you first, then the backup contact, and notifies VEDU support at the same time. Only if nobody has been reached by the end of the waiting window is the ride closed as a no-show. For an immediate ride you pay the waiting charge that accrued. For a booked ride you pay 70% of the calculated fare, because the driver had reserved that time.

Can I cancel?

Yes, up until the ride starts. Immediate ride: free while no driver has been assigned; once a driver has been on the way for more than 5 minutes the fee is 0,50 EUR; once they have arrived it is 50% of the calculated fare. Booked ride: free if there is more than 60 minutes to go or no driver has been assigned; after that 70% of the calculated fare.

What if the driver cancels?

You pay nothing. If the reason is genuine - a breakdown, illness - VEDU assigns another driver as a priority.

Safety

How are drivers vetted?

Every driver is on the ATD taxi driver register, works under a licensed carrier, and has submitted a criminal record certificate (with no restriction on commercial carriage), a driving licence, vehicle documents and CSDD penalty point and medical certificate confirmation. On top of that, each one goes through a psychological assessment designed and overseen by a certified psychologist, and VEDU's safety and child-carriage training.

Can I see where my child is?

Yes. During the ride you see the car on a live map and get notifications: driver arrived, ride started, ride completed.

Are there cameras in the car?

Yes. Every ride runs cabin and road cameras with video and audio, plus GPS. Neither the parent nor the driver can switch the recording off: it is the VEDU safety standard, the same on every ride. If something happens, we need to know what actually happened.

Can I watch the ride live?

Yes - during the ride, and only the parent of that ride can open the live view in the app. The recording continues whether or not you are watching.

How long are recordings kept?

Recordings are stored on VEDU infrastructure in the European Union (Finland). A ride rated 5 stars has its recording deleted after 3 days; unrated rides after 7 days; rides rated 1 to 4 stars are kept for the incident review and deleted manually afterwards.

How is the child handed over?

You choose one of two modes, in the child's profile or for a particular address. Handover to an adult: the driver hands the child to you or to a person you have named. Child leaves alone: at a school gate, for example - a mode you choose deliberately, confirming the child may leave unaccompanied at that address. The handover is recorded by GPS and a camera frame.

How does a ride finish?

Only with your confirmation. When the driver reaches the destination you get a notification; make sure the child is there (a call, a message, the live view) and press "Delivered safely" in the app. The driver cannot finish the ride without you.

What if nobody is there to meet the child?

The driver never drives off and never leaves a child alone. They contact you, then the backup contact, with VEDU support involved at the same time. If it is not resolved within 10 minutes, a waiting charge of 0,01 EUR per minute begins.

Can someone else meet my child?

Yes. Tap "share the ride" in the app and the person you trust gets a link with live tracking and the driver's details. They do not need the app. VEDU does not store their details; who receives the link is the parent's responsibility.

How do I complain?

Write to hello@getvedu.app or use the support chat. In a dispute you may also use the out-of-court procedure of the Consumer Rights Protection Centre (PTAC).

What data do you process about me?

Only what the service needs: identity details, the route, GPS during the ride, and tokenised payment data. The controller is SIA VEDU, and processing is GDPR-compliant. Ride records are kept for at least 5 years in an EU or NATO country, as the law requires.

Driver requirements

Who can drive for VEDU?

At least 3 years of driving experience and a valid category B licence. Residence in Latvia for at least the last 5 years. A registered company or self-employed status. ATD permits: entry on the taxi driver register, ATD registration for commercial passenger carriage, and a licence card for the vehicle. A criminal record certificate with no restriction on commercial carriage (ic.iem.gov.lv). Clear, respectful communication with children and parents in Latvian, Russian or English. Willingness to take the psychological assessment and VEDU training.

What car do I need?

A passenger car with at least four doors, a valid roadworthiness test and insurance covering commercial carriage. Clean, tidy and in good mechanical order. At least one certified child seat appropriate to the child's age - the driver provides it, and it is compulsory.

Do I need an Android phone?

The VEDU driver app runs on both iPhone and Android. The camera app is Android-only for now, so you need an Android phone for the rides.

Do I pay for the training or the assessment?

No, VEDU covers those.

Who provides the VEDU car branding?

VEDU does. It is issued once your profile is activated.

Joining

How do I apply?

Three steps. 1) Sign up in the app: personal, vehicle and company details, photos, experience, ATD permits, and a short remote assessment reviewed by a psychologist. 2) Documents: upload your ID or passport, driving licence, criminal record certificate, ATD permits, vehicle registration, and CSDD penalty point and medical certificate confirmation. 3) Activation: the compulsory video training and the driver handbook, then your profile goes live.

Does VEDU run the criminal record check?

No. You obtain the certificate yourself at ic.iem.gov.lv and upload it in the app. VEDU verifies what you submit against the public registers (ATD, CSDD).

Work and pay

What do I earn?

70% of every completed ride. VEDU's commission is 30%. During the pilot, waiting charges and cancellation or no-show compensation go to the driver in full.

When am I paid?

Weekly, by bank transfer.

Can I work on other platforms too?

Yes. You choose when you work.

How do rides reach me?

Offers arrive in the app based on where you are and whether you are available. Accept or decline in the app.

Can I decline a ride?

Yes, for a genuine reason, stating it in the app: a problem with the car, the passenger did not turn up, a wrong address, luggage that will not fit, safety concerns, unacceptable passenger behaviour, a risk of breaking the law, or another reason with an explanation. Declining without a reason affects your reliability rating, and repeated refusals can lead to deactivation.

Can I see my ride history?

Yes, at least the last 3 months.

During the ride

What is expected of me on every ride?

Meet the child in person at the given place and walk them in person to the given place or person. A child must never be left unattended or "at the gate" unless the parent has chosen the "child leaves alone" mode. A calm, respectful tone, punctuality, and immediate reporting of any incident.

Where do I mount the phone?

So that both the cabin with the child and the road are in view. Cabin and road cameras with video and audio run on every ride; that is the VEDU safety standard.

How does waiting at the pickup work?

You arrive, GPS records it, the parent is notified. 7 minutes free, then up to 10 minutes at 0,01 EUR per minute - all of it yours. For a booked ride the clock starts at the booked time, not at your arrival.

What if the child does not come out?

The app walks you through it: call the parent, then the backup contact, with VEDU support in parallel. A no-show cannot be registered until those steps are done. For an immediate ride you receive the waiting charge that accrued; for a booked ride, 70% of the calculated fare.

How do I finish a ride?

The "Finish" button stays inactive until the parent has confirmed the child was handed over safely. In handover mode the person meeting the child reads out a code, you enter it in the app and the server checks it. If there is no code, call the parent. If the child has been collected but there is no confirmation, mark "child collected, no code given" and carry on working; the parent confirms later.

What if there is no adult at the destination?

Never drive off and never leave the child alone. Contact the parent, the backup contact and VEDU support. After 10 minutes a waiting charge of 0,01 EUR per minute starts automatically.

What if I have to cancel?

A genuine reason - a breakdown, illness - carries no penalty and VEDU reassigns the ride. Without one it affects your reliability rating, and repeated cases can lead to deactivation.

Where do I report an incident?

Immediately: the support chat in the app or +371 29966535. In writing afterwards to hello@getvedu.app.

Does VEDU insure the rides?

The carrier is responsible for performing the carriage, the car's condition, passenger safety and civil liability. VEDU provides the digital intermediation, payments and support.
